- Description
- In the inter-war period, there were influential refinements of the relations between individual and society, and between different economic interests, that had evolved during the first decades of the Commonwealth. What was at stake was not just economic progress, but the nature of civil society and of the networks within it. To some extent this can be traced back to the Great War itself. The tensions that emerged in politics and society during the war force us to question just how 'settled' the so-called Australian settlement of the early Commonwealth period really was.
